Oakwood School seeks a full-time theatre teacher/director (grades 7-12) for the 2024-25 school year. This is a one year assignment only (covering for a sabbatical) which starts in August 2024 and ends in Mid-June 2025.

The ideal candidate is comfortable teaching middle school and high school theatre and will be expected to work with a diversity of learners from beginning to advanced students. The candidate should also have a strong background in directing, musical theatre and proficiency in diverse theatre styles and theatre pedagogy.  The specific teaching assignment will consist of such classes as Introduction to Acting, Introduction to Improve, Contemporary Scene Study, Theatre Styles and Genres and Advanced Scene Study. This Person would also direct the HS Play.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide exceptional, developmentally-appropriate theatre instruction to beginning, intermediate, and advanced theatre students 
  • Coordinate cross-disciplinary opportunities within the performing arts
  • Engage with students in a progressive, constructivist manner while ensuring sufficient mastery and development of sound artistic practices
  • Regularly provide feedback to students and families in person, in writing, and through Oakwood’s learning management system
  • Attend department and faculty meetings, parent conferences and Open Houses
  • Coordinate student performances

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 3+ years of relevant theatre teaching experience
  • Strong class management skills
  • Stage directing experience
  • Musical theatre experience
  • Piano/vocal coaching experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a high degree of cultural competency
  • Ability to prioritize and carry out assignments with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness
  • Dedication to the whole-person development of young people, including an enthusiasm for positive identity development and diversity, equity, and inclusion work
  • Proficient computer skills with Google Drive and Microsoft Windows office products

 

Expected compensation: $68,896 - $80,944
