Oakwood School seeks a full-time Technical Theatre Teacher (grades 7-12) for the 2024-25 school year. The ideal candidate is adept at teaching middle school and high school technical theatre and will be expected to work with a diversity of learners from beginning to advanced students, as well as collaborating on middle and high school musical and theatre productions. The candidate should have a strong background in stagecraft, shop and painting skills, production, sound and lighting design. The specific teaching assignment will consist of such classes as Introduction to Theatre Tech, Stagecraft and Advanced Technical Theatre. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises set construction, scenic painting, hang and focus lights, and operating sound equipment;
  • Maintains storage area organization and ensures that equipment and materials are stored properly;
  • Maintains equipment inventory accurately;
  • Oversees and coordinates appropriate support and staffing for technical rehearsals and productions for High School Musical, High School Play, Winter Concert, Dance Shows, Spring Concert, Showcases, Arts festival, and other events;
  • Maintains facilities in an orderly, clean, safe, and secure manner by coordinating facility services;
  • Trains and works with student, volunteers, parents, and staff at any work calls.
  • Manages guest and adjunct faculty specialists who may be involved in supporting aspects of the productions and program (i.e. costume designers, scenic painters, lighting designers, etc).
  • Assists Technical Director, Drama Instructors, Advisors, and Administrators in continuing to build a robust High School performing arts program for Oakwood students.
  • Additional duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma and 2+ years of college or post high school experience in stagecraft and technical theatre.
  • Experience in secondary school teaching and working with student productions.
  • Ability to routinely perform physical tasks associated with the position such as standing, sitting, walking, bending, twisting, climbing stairs and occasionally lifting pushing and/or lifting objects up to 75 lbs.
  • Basic knowledge in operating start of the art lighting and sound equipment (ETC EOS Family and APEX10 Console);
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with school staff, students, and community members.
Expected compensation: $71,849 - $85,192 annual  - plus full benefits package
