DESCRIPTION
Oakwood Secondary School is accepting applications for a full-time high school Social Studies teaching position for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. Teaching assignments will include 9th and 10th grade Global History sections.  The teacher will collaborate with other members of the department to design curriculum, develop assessments, and teach core courses.  In addition, the teacher will participate in the wider life of the school community.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, or another Social Science discipline required; Master’s degree or doctorate preferred, as is a specialization in a region of the world outside of the United States or Western Europe.
  • Three to five years of experience teaching in a high school setting, preferably working with 9th and/or 10th grade students.
  • Experience teaching reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development in both subject matter and progressive educational methodology.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plans, prepares, and executes developmentally supportive social studies lessons in accordance with Oakwood’s Social Studies department learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with fellow Social Studies teachers in designing and developing curriculum.
  • Commitment to our DEIB values and goals as stated in our DEIB mission statement.
  • Maintains regular communication with student-support team members: parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators and updates an organized assignment calendar and gradebook in Oakwood School’s learning management system.
  • Constructively contributes to department and faculty meetings, as well as parent conferences; engages in regular communication with parents and administrators; and performs occasional supervisory duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height.  Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to visually inspect work.  Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required.

Salary Range: $71,622-$88,550
