Oakwood School offers an innovative, inclusive and diverse school community that centers student health and wellbeing. We seek a full-time Counselor to work with both middle and high school students to provide social and emotional support, to partner with parents and outside support personnel and to be an active participant in our middle and high school student support teams. In addition to the primary responsibilities as Counselor, this role includes teaching and supporting our Human Development program. The candidate should be a licensed counselor. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works closely with the Director of Support Services and school administrators and is a member of the Student Success Team.
  • Partners closely with Student Deans to support and shape programming related to student mental health needs.
  • Supports students in learning to adopt more positive attitudes toward school and the learning process.
  • Develops social-emotional competencies.
  • Teaches and supports Human Development programming
  • Provides regular and supportive feedback.
  • Fosters strong relationships with peers, parents, teachers, and others in the child’s life.
  • Improves the communication skills of young learners and helps them develop effective decision-making strategies.
  • Teaches problem-solving skills and conflict resolution behaviors.
  • Fosters diversity, equity, and inclusive awareness 
  • Supports teachers by developing strategies for addressing individual and group needs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires Master’s degree in Counseling, School Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy 
  • Counseling license 
  • 3-5 years of school counseling experience
  • Independent school experience preferred
  • Appropriately credentialed
  • Able to pass state and federal background checks

Expected annual compensation: $83,000 - $120,000
